Initiatives
As we move forward, I will continue to address the needs of Cumberland through strategic investments that push us closer to the goal of making our Town a healthier, more accessible place to live, work, and play for all residents.
Amaral & Heritage
With $3.6 million in grant funding, we're hard at work on the development of a “wellness hub,” tying together the Amaral Building community center with Valley Falls Heritage Park. The expanded project seeks to advance the town’s community outreach efforts to serve diverse needs of residents better to create improved health, educational, and social-emotional outcomes.
Diamond Hill Park
We've accomplished a lot at Diamond Hill Park, but the work is not done yet. In the coming months, we'll manage and oversee the completion of the new community center construction at the park. We'll continue to proactively plan for the ongoing maintenance of the space in a sustainable way through park management plans.
Franklin Farm Improvements
The town was awarded $500,000 to make improvements to the historic Franklin Farm Long Barn facility, which provides fresh produce to low-and moderate-income households throughout Rhode Island. Additionally, the Town leveraged conveyance tax dollars and historic grant funds to complete interior renovations at the Farmhouse.
Fiscal Responsibility
The Town has several long-term financial obligations that require experience and creativity to plan for, this includes balancing initial payments on the school construction bonds while protecting taxpayers. We've safe-guarded the Town by created designated fund balances and incrementally decreasing the Town's reliance on fund balance.
Valley Falls-Lonsdale Redevelopment
The grant-funded Valley Falls/Lonsdale Economic and Social Equity Development Plan prioritizes building business opportunity and investment around Ann & Hope and Broad Street, including the area’s federal opportunity zone census tract. With the completed plan in hand, we move to implementation of these initiatives.
Infrastructure Improvements
Through working with Local, State, and Federal leaders as well as the Finance and Public Works Department. We've been able to plan for long-term capital improvements and securing funding for key priorities which are in various planning or implementation stages including:
-
Industrial Road
-
Sidewalk Repair & Installation
-
Public Safety Communications Equipment
-
Abbott Street Pump Station (Sewer Infrastructure)
-
Water Infrastructure Improvements
-
Broadband Infrastructure
We look forward to seeing these projects through to fruition.
