Small Business Assistance

Supporting the Businesses that Support the Community
I'm a small business guy, from a small business family - always have been. I know what it's like to be in charge of everything from executive decisions to janitorial duties. It's why we've prioritized supporting small businesses during these increasingly difficult times. Our administration has provided:
-
Over $500,000 in direct support grants to small businesses to use for any expenses they deemed fit to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
-
Nearly $200,000 in Take it Outside grants/supplies for businesses to expand their outdoor presence/streetscape.
-
Expanded/Increased flexibility for Outdoor Dining.
Budget Transparency
Open Dialogue About Finances
Under our Administration's strong leadership, the Town of Cumberland was chosen as a recipient of the Government Finance Officers Distinguished Budget Presentation Award two years in a row! In order to receive the budget award, the Town had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.

Senior Center

Complete Remodel
We are proud to have been able to cut the ribbon at the completely revitalized Cumberland Senior Center. Projects completed with CDBG funding are upgrades to electrical, a new gas heater, and a renovated kitchen and new kitchen equipment. A new roof has also been added, as have exterior improvements such as a new portico, stone veneer, siding, shutters, and pergolas. New ADA-compliant front and side entries with new electronic exterior doors, new interior doors, grading and paving of the parking lot and approach roads, and landscaping have also been completed.
Grant Acquisition
Making Improvements Without Using Tax Dollars
Since taking office we have secured over NINE million dollars in grant funding ($9,249,479). Over the course of the current fiscal year, we have secured over three million dollars in funding. Some highlights include:
-
Redevelopment of the Amaral Building into a Community Health Center
-
Public Safety Communications Equipment
-
Diamond Hill Park Improvements (Pond, Stage, Pump Track, Building)
-
Creation of a Valley Falls-Lonsdale Economic Development Plan
-
Critical infrastructure improvements
All without impacting the general fund/tax rate.
